Records of this office, established June 28, 1972 under Executive Order No. 33, its purpose to serve as the chief integrator of all aspects of the state's human services system, particularly in relation to the 1973 Human Services Act. Mainly correspondence, committee and task force materials, reports, and studies dealing with such topics as budget, consultants, feasibility studies, group homes, policy, legislation, services integration, telecommunications, and taxonomy. The records also include documents covering the office's relationship with the Arrowhead and Headwaters regional development commissions, Human Services Council, and Human Services Office; the 1972 proposal to create the office; and its August 1975 final report.

The Office of Human Services was officially created under Executive Order No. 114 on July 9, 1975. Monies for the operation of the office were provided in the 1975 Health, Welfare, and Corrections appropriations bill [Laws 1975 c434 s2 subd24].
