President Jimmy Carter's White House Conference on Families was actually held in three locations--Baltimore, Los Angeles, and Minneapolis. The purpose of the conference was to find out how public policies affect the family. These records document the activities of the state's advisory committee, headed by the Planning Agency's Human Resources Planning Unit director Dean Honetschlager. The committee held regional hearings in Alexandria, Crookston, Grand Rapids, Marshall, Minneapolis, Rochester, and White Bear Lake in preparation for the June 19-20, 1980 meeting in Minneapolis.
