The Rexford, Mont., station of the Great Northern Railway was established in 1903. It was closed in 1972 when the railroad was rerouted due to the flooding of the area behind the Libby Dam. Pacific Short Line.

The Pacific Short Line was intended to consolidate the properties of three other railroads: the Nebraska and Western Railway, the Salt Lake Valley and Eastern Railway, and the Wyoming and Eastern Railway. The Nebraska and Western built a 129-mile line from Covington to O'Neill, Nebraska, which was transferred to the Sioux City, O'Neill and Western Railway, a GN subsidiary, in 1891.
