The Rexford, Mont., station of the Great Northern Railway was established in 1903. It was closed in 1972 when the railroad was rerouted due to the flooding of the area behind the Libby Dam. The company was incorporated in 1886 by a group of landowners and was purchased in 1888 by the Northern Land Company. The latter was purchased in 1890 by the Eastern Railway Company of Minnesota, a GN subsidiary. The quarry properties were eventually transferred to the Dakota and Great Northern Townsite Company, which leased the property to a succession of operators until the quarry closed in the mid-1930s.
