William and Simon McGillivray papers, 1793, 1820, 1960, 1965.

Photocopied diaries of William MacGillivray and his son Simon, fur traders and partners in the North West Company. William's diary (1793) describes fur trading methods, relations with the Ojibwe Indians, and the topography of the Canadian Northwest. Simon's diary (1820) describes his arrest and imprisonment by agents of the Hudson's Bay Company, and his escape. Included also are clippings (1960, 1965) containing information on the discovery of Simon's diary and on McGillivray genealogy.
