The company, incorporated in 1900, purchased (1905) and operated two large steamships on the Pacific Ocean, carrying cargo and passengers between ports in Washington and the Orient, primarily Japan. One ship, the Dakota, was wrecked on the Japanese coast in 1907. The remaining ship, the Minnesota, was sold in 1917 and the company ceased doing active business. It was dissolved in 1927. The Rexford, Mont., station of the Great Northern Railway was established in 1903. It was closed in 1972 when the railroad was rerouted due to the flooding of the area behind the Libby Dam.
