Atherton Bean papers, 1918-1998.

Personal papers of the president and chairman of International Multifoods, consisting largely of typed carbon copies of Atherton and Winifred Bean's outgoing correspondence. Some incoming correspondence was retained with the copy. There are also photographs, certificates, and other items pertaining to their personal philanthropic gifts, the Athwin Foundation, the F.A. Bean Foundation, and the Western Foundation.

Founded in 1892 by Francis Atherton Bean, Sr. at New Prague, Minn. Construction on a Buffalo mill, the company's largest, began in 1926. Conpleted in 1927, it had the capacity to produce 20,000 cwt. of flour per day. The Buffalo mill also produced formula feeds for livestock and poultry.
