Letters, financial papers, two diaries (1855-1860), survey notes (1858-1860), maps, a brief Dakota-English vocabulary, and miscellany of Leavenworth, a surveyor and civil engineer. They pertain largely to his years in Minnesota (1856-1860) surveying and mapping areas in Le Sueur County and in the upper Minnesota River Valley.

Mary Parkman Peabody, the eldest of five children of Henry Parkman and Mary Frances (Parker) Parkman, was born on July 24, 1891, in Beverly, Massachusetts. She embarked on a trip around the world in 1912, traveling to India, Burma, Ceylon, China, Japan, and the Philippines. In 1916, she married Malcolm Peabody, son of Fannie and Endicott Peabody, the founder of Groton School. Willis A. Gorman was born January 12, 1816 in Fleming County, Kentucky, the son of David and Elizabeth Gorman.
