This collection contains correspondence, logs, receipts, wage accounts, receipts, and other papers related to ships on which Charles Hamilton served as crew or captain. The ship John De Costa is the most thoroughly documented, but there are records for the ships RD Shepherd, the James Montgomery, the Anna Decatur, and the Kate Prince as well. Included is a letter from Charles Hamilton to his wife, composed over the span of two months, describing the activities on a voyage on the John De Costa. Each series is arranged chronologically.
