Joseph G. Richard papers, 1915-1970.

The Joseph G. Richard Papers document Richard's work as a vocational agriculture teacher in Gilbert, La. (1923-1925); a county agent in Terrebonne Parish, La. (1926-1935); an agricultural specialist in extension methods and agricultural experiment station research in France for the European Office of the Mutual Security Agency (1953); an agricultural consultant of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations in Switzerland, Austria, Italy, and Africa (1962); technical adviser to United Arab Republic agriculturists visiting the United States (1966); and adviser to the Brazilian Sugar Team visiting the United States (1970). Other materials include photographs of extension work in rural Louisiana in the 1930s, a collection of U.S. Department of Agriculture Farmers' Bulletins, and county agents' and agricultural extension workers' diaries (1918-1950). Other papers reflect Richard's research in iris culture and his interest in Louisiana native irises. In addition to correspondence (1934-1961), there are materials on the Mary Swords DeBaillon Iris Society and printed materials on irises.
