Letter, 1827 Feb. 12, Columbia, [S.C., to] Miss Louisa C. Bryant, Cummington, Mass.

Letter to his sister, in which the New England poet describes his visit to Columbia, S.C., including a club meeting at "the Merchants Hotel" at which he had been guest of honor. Among the guests, Bryant reports, "were some of the most distinguished personages of the place... This is the first institution of the kind in this place & it bids fair to be permanent - - we have a goodly number of respectable and active members."
