By an act of the S.C. General Assembly, 19 Dec. 1835, the Cincinnati & Charleston Railroad Company was incorporated with power to construct a railroad from Charleston, S.C., to Cincinnati, Ohio. Subsequently, 21 Dec. 1836, the name of that company was changed to Louisville, Cincinnati & Charleston Railroad Company.
