Brewer-Penniman family letters, 1804 Feb. 11-1895 June 16.

A collection of letters written between three generations of the Brewer family, a merchant family of Salem and Boston. The bulk of the letters are addressed to Gardner Brewer, a wholesale commission merchant; some business correspondence is included. The family was a wealthy one, and letters recount details of trips to Europe and Cuba. Brewer's son, "Gardy," died accidentally in 1857 and there are many obituaries and letters of condolence. Brewer's eldest daughter, Mary Elizabeth, married into the Penniman family of New York in 1853. Letters from the Civil War period are absent. With "Genealogy and reminiscences of the Brewer family" by Gardner Brewer Penniman. Item-level inventory available.
