ArchivalResource

Autograph letters signed from William Wordsworth, Rydal Mount, Westmorland, to various people [manuscript], 1816-1840.

In both letters Wordsworth declines to take part in the proposed celebrations honouring Shakespeare. In the one to Torré he writes disparagingly of the general lack of support for Sergeant Talfourd's Copyright Bill. Literature stands much less in need of monuments to the dead than in justice to the living.
