The collection consists of miscellaneous letters and documents pertaining to a wide variety of individuals active in the cause of the Confederacy. There are a number of letters from the war years, but the majority are letters of reminiscence and anecdotes from the post-war period with a few individuals represented only by signatures on documents. Historically, the letters vary widely in content and importance. Some of the people included in this collection are: Edward Porter Alexander, William J. Hardee, Benjamin Harvey Hill, James Longstreet, Alexander Hamilton Stephens, and Robert Toombs.
