Papers of the Seay family, 1819-1912 (bulk 1869-1912).

The collection contains the correspondence of Andrew Jackson Seay, Middleton Mills, Fluvanna County, Va. Letters to his wife Josephine Seay, family members and customers, discuss the mill's business, weather, crops and prices, family health and neighborhood news, and insurance. There is also correspondence of other family members and letters of condolence on his death. Financial papers include bills and receipts, accounts, promissory notes, day books, journals, a ledger, and memoranda books, 1867-1898. Clippings, several Richmond Price Indexes, Some reminiscences of milling in Virginia, 1895, by Seay, in the Miller's Review, and a history of Middleton Mills copied from Fluvanna County court records complete the collection. Correspondents include John Randolph Bryan and John Bowdoin Cocke.
