Lanneau family papers, 1829-1984; (bulk, 1911-1983).

Chiefly photocopies of documents re the Lanneau family and descendants of Bazile Lanneau (1746-1833), a tanner and shoemaker born Bazile La Noue in "Acadia" [now Nova Scotia] who was deported to Charleston, S.C., in 1755 with his mother and brothers during the expulsion of French colonists later known as "Cajuns"; also including genealogical notes and charts, and accounts of the burning of Columbia, S.C., on 18 Feb. 1865. Letter, 27 Feb. 1912, Darlington, S.C., Mary S[tephens Lanneau] Whilden, to [John Francis Lanneau], re the burning of Columbia in 1865, her family, and anticipation of the unvieling of the F.W. Ruckstull monument honoring Confederate women of South Carolina in April; and printed manuscript, 17 Feb. 1922, "Anniversary of Burning of City," newspaper article from The State, with personal account by Frank[lin] F[leetwood] Whilden.
