Diary of James C. Bonar, 1887-1891.

This is a photocopy of the diary that James C. Bonar, one of the first settlers of the Entiat River Valley, WA. It is a diary of the second European man to settle in the Entiat Valley. The diary describes the frequent trips that Bonar makes to the town Orondo, WA , across the Columbia River. It includes a few notes about the births and deaths of the area. It also includes a description about Bonar's death and burial. The Diary is courtesy of his daughter, Irma Shamley. The photocopy was forwarded to the WSL from John Brown.

James Crayton Bonar was born in 1829. It is unclear when Bonar made the journey to the Washington Territory but he was the second European settler in the Entiat River Valley in Washington Territory. From March 1887 through Dec. 1889 he kept a daily memorandum of his activities and the people he visited. In his diary he describes frequent trips to the town of Orondo, WA for supplies.
