Interview of Cdr. Donald LaChance, USCG, Logistics Officer, Maintenance and Logistics Command Atlantic (MLCLANT), and Lcdr. Steven Whitehead, Chief of Contingency Planning, MLCLANT, containing detailed descriptions of their activities relating to Hurricane Katrina rescue operations including: prepositioning damage assessment teams to get on scene as soon as possible after Katrina hit the Gulf Coast and assess the damage and also directing the emergency reconstruction teams to repair damage to USCG facilities and infrastructure; providing resources for any personnel or logistics requests coming up the chain of command from incident management teams in Alexandria, La., and St. Louis, Mo., and incident management team for the Atlantic Area (LANT); assisting in temporarily moving the flooded out Integrated Support Command staff and operations from USCG, District Eight, New Orleans, La., to St. Louis; providing the USCG and their families with boarding, food, transportation, office space, communications, and other critical resources; and assisting in building the Mississippi Coastal Recovery Base Gulfport.
