At the core of the collection is poet and philanthropist Aline Badger Carter who was Poet Laureate of Texas from 1947-1949 and who documented San Antonio history in her 1,000 page manuscript, "Light Beyond the Hills." Mrs. Carter kept family papers dating back to her great grandmother, Elizabeth Mary Minefee, who migrated to the Republic of Texas in the 1840s.
