A narrative describing the plight of some slaves in Tennessee who were to be freed, but were kidnapped and funds were required to rescue them. Signatories to the document indicated their willingness to donate to the cause. These included: George W. Bethune, Caspar Wistar, J.H. Sturge, Moses Brown, Thomas Wistar, M(armaduke) C. Cope, Nathan Dunn and others.

Thomas Wistar was born to a prominent Quaker family in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on March 17, 1764; his brother Caspar Wistar (1761-1818) was a noted physician. Thomas Wistar worked as a merchant in Philadelphia, and partnered with several local businessmen in the late 18th century.
