Edward E. Kellogg (1866-1944) joined the gold rush to the Klondike in 1897. Failing to strike it rich after several years of mining and working as a mechanic, he moved to Fairbanks, Alaska, in the early 1900s. There he went into the mining machinery business, serving as consulting engineer in the firm Brumbaugh, Hamilton & Kellogg (predecessor of Samson Hardware).
