Frank Manley, poet, playwright, and novelist, was born in Scranton, Pennsylvania on November 13, 1930 to Kathryn L. Needham and Aloysius F. Manley. Manley earned a bachelor's degree (1952) and master's degree (1953) from Emory University in Atlanta. The Tanana Valley Gold Dredging Company, Ltd. was organized September, 1926, in England. They invested $500,000 in equipment, men and supplies. The company was later mortgaged to Consolidated Gold Fields, Ltd. There were difficulties working in the permafrost of the Tanana Valley, but by 1927 the company was working two shifts, seven days a week.
