The Elmer Parkison Diary consists of a 39 page diary kept by Elmer Parkison from January 1 through April 7, 1969, while he and his crew were constructing an ice road from Livengood to Prudhoe Bay, Alaska. The ice road predated the Dalton Highway by several years and was used to transport supplies to the new oil fields. Parkison kept a record of construction progress, daily tasks, and temperatures. Additions to the collection include notes on the ice road to Livengood as well as a diary and correspondence relating to the first winter that the Haines Highway was kept open, 1963-1969.

Elmer Parkison was born in South Dakota and moved to Alaska in 1940. He worked at Eielson Air Force Base before moving to the Alaska Road Commission.
