Diary, 1864-1865.

The diary, covering the period of 4 May 1864 to 1 July 1865, was kept by Creed Thomas Davis as a private in the Richmond Howitzers (Confederate States Army of Northern Virginia and Army of the Valley) during campaigns in western Virginia and at the siege of Petersburg. From 14 April through 29 June 1865, Davis was a prisoner of war at Newport News, Va., during which period he compiled a list of Confederate prisoners who died there.
