Edmund Gosse letter, 1916.

The collection consists of a three-page note dated 17 August 1916 to a literary friend of Gosse's is important because of the bibliographic information which it contains. Gosse's correspondent has left with him some books to be autographed, among them the Madrigals by Gosse and J. A. Blaikie published in 1870. Gosse elaborates, "That you should have got the "Madrigals" of 1870 amused me, for it is a very rare book indeed. Fewer than 12 copies were sold of it, and I very seldom hear of its turning up." This particular copy of Madrigals is now in Special Collections in the Gosse Author Collection.
