Letters to Sir Henry Cole, 1866-1876.

Most of the correspondence concerns Houghton's presidency of the liberal arts section of the British display at the French exposition in 1867. Cole was acting commissioner and secretary to the royal commission for Great Britain. Several letters deal with damage suffered in transport by a Holbein portrait of Henry VIII. Other letters in the collection mention Houghton's various literary activities.
