Mary Stone Naijon Letters, 1927-1986.

In a series of letters to lifelong friend Fillmore Norfleet, Naijon describes her life in France for almost 50 years. Topics include a 1927 trip to Rouen, advice on love and marriage, post World War II hardships and political upheaval, and family news and life in Paris through the years. She comments on Julien Green and French resentment when he was selected for the Académie franc̦aise. Of interest is a 14 page round robin letter, ca. 1946?, describing her experiences during World War II, mentioning mobilization, flight from Paris to Meymác, German strafing, return to Paris, arrest of foreign nationals, internment at Vittel for two years, battle of Nancy and liberation of the camp, return to Paris and reunion with husband, and postwar famine conditions. A letter from a niece, Ruth Mealand, announces Mary Naijon's death and two letters from [Madame Lapeyroux?] describe postwar France and extend hospitality.
