Papers of William Anderson, 1861-1948 (bulk 1861-1864).

The collection contains letters of Anderson to his wife Lucretia McFall Anderson from his enlistment in the 4th Regiment, South Carolina Volunteers (Palmetto sharpshooters) in April 1861 until his death shortly after the Seven days battles. Anderson describes the Virginia scene, camp life, picket duty, and battles in which he participated, First Bull Run, Williamsburg, Fair Oaks, and Seven Pines. There is also a letter from Colonel J.B. Sloan, his commanding officer, concerning his death and two letters from his brother-in-law James McFall. In addition the collection contains the 1838 marriage certificate of his daughter and a 1948 letter about his military career.
