Written during Twain's writing of the novel Pudd'nhead Wilson: "Behold the would-be wise man hath said "Put not all thine eggs in the one basket"--the which is a manner of saying "Scatter your money and your attention;" but the truly wise man saith "Put all thine eggs in the one basket and---watch that basket."
