Chiefly papers of Charles William Dabney (1809-1895), lawyer of "Aldingham," Hanover County, including correspondence, 1830-1891, accounts, 1825-1887, account books, 1832-1864, concerning agricultural operations at "Aldingham," diary, 1831-1857, and materials concerning cases in which he served as legal counsel. His practice extended to Goochland, Hanover, and Louisa counties, Va. Included are letters, 1830-1834, concerning pension and bounty claims for service in the U.S. Army, letters and other materials, 1840-1880, concerning the Tinder Gold Mine and the Hope Mining Company of Louisa County, Va., and materials concerning the estates of Walter Coles (1769-1815), Samuel R. Jones (d. 1848?), and William Larkin White (1794-1880), all of Hanover County. Also, papers of Charles Dabney (1744-1829) of Hanover County, Va., including blacksmith's account books, 1773-1829, loose accounts, 1814- 1833, and commonplace book, 1791-1805, containing lists of livestock and tools.; and scattered papers of Jane (Meriwether) Dabney (1757-1833), Samuel Dabney, and William F. Johnson (d. 1862), all of Louisa County; and Overton A. Mosby (d. 1852) of Richmond Va.
