Fred Howard Parker papers, 1881-1982.

Consisting of correspondence, teaching materials, and recital programs documenting Parker's work as a church musician and music educator, his musical studies at Chicora College, University of South Carolina, and the Conservatoire Americain, Fountainebleau, France, his teaching careers at Chicora College, 1925-1930, and Columbia College, 1930-1965, where he taught piano, organ, and church music and chaired the Department of Music. Other topics include his tenure as organist and choirmaster at First Presbyterian Church, Columbia; the musical training and career of his wife, Carolyn Patterson Parker (1900-1981), her studies at Flora MacDonald College and the Conservatoire Americain, her career as voice instructor at Chicora College, Mitchell College, and Columbia College, and her work as choir director at Ebenezer Lutheran Church, Columbia, S.C. Also includes letters detailing F.H. Parker's one-year stint at Georgia Tech, 1917-1918; and courtship letters between Fred H. Parker's parents, Frederick Lee Parker (1873-1951) and Julia Annie Prescott (1877-1936); Letters from close friend Annie Stokes' re her 1st year at Columbia College; letters from Janie Evans Patterson, Carolyn Parker's sister, while working as missionary-teacher in Cuba; and taped interviews, 16 July 1981, re Parker's musical training in South Carolina and France, and with Henry Bellamann (T51).
