Chiefly correspondence and other materials, 1855-1883, of Henry Alexander Carrington (1833-1885) of "Blithewood" and "Ingleside" plantations, Charlotte County, and Richmond, Va., and while serving with the 18th Virginia Infantry, C.S.A., in northern Virginia and as a prisoner of war at Johnson Island, Ohio, and Point Lookout, Md. Also included are correspondence and legal papers of Paul Carrington (1733-1818) of Charlotte County; letters, 1812-1847, written to Henry Carrington (1793- 1867), while a student at Princeton University and a planter at "Ingleside"; and family and social letters, 1861-1865, written to Charlotte Elizabeth (Cullen) Carrington of "Ingleside" and "Retirement" plantations, Charlotte County; and letters, 1901-1909, to John Cullen Carrington (1860- 1917). The collection also includes a vestry book, 1863-1866, for Grace Church (Protestant Episcopal), Charlotte Court House, Va.; materials, 1825- 1913, pertaining to the Village Presbyterian Church, also in Charlotte Court House; and genealogical notes on the Cabell and Carrington families.
