George Schley - letter, 1833.

The collection consists of a letter, written verso and recto of one leaf and dated Savannah, June 13th, 1833. The letter is from George Schley to William Bard, president of the New York Life Insurance and Trust Company, and concerns the purchase of an insurance policy for a friend. Schley describes the individual in this fashion: "His habits of life are regular & temperate - his character elevated - he pursued Literature and Science, being a Professor in Franklin College at Athens in the State of Georgia, a place remarkable for its salubrity..." The letter concludes with some financial matters pertaining to the professor and possible methods for implementation of the policy.
