Letter from J.L. Smith of Pointe Coupee Parish, La., to his brother William B. Smith of Spring Grove, N.C. Smith describes the delicate state of his health, a land speculation scheme he hopes to successfully carry off, and the collision of the steamer Belle of Nashville with the steamer Louisiana above Baton Rouge, a disaster that killed some thirty people.
