This collection contains three original letters written by Jefferson in Monticello on Apr. 17, 1810 to Col. Skipwith concerning millet seeds, on Aug. 24, 1816 to John Campbell White concerning melon seeds, on Nov. 27, 1818 to Henry E. Watkins concerning succory seeds. Additionally, the collection contains a copy of the extract from the account book of James Lee & Co. noting nursery stock purchased by Jefferson, as well as 7 unrelated letters (6 original and 1 copy) written to Jefferson between Mar. 17, 1794 and Oct. 20, 1819 by various people on the topic of agriculture. Every item in the collection is accompanied by a transcription. Partial history of the collection is documented by correspondence between W.K. Bixby of St. Louis, Mo., the donor of the majority of letters, and D.F. Houston, Secretary of Agriculture (U.S.).
