Herb Caen scrapbooks, 1936-1997.

Spiral-bound newspaper pages containing Herb Caen's daily column spanning his entire career as a San Francisco journalist, primarily at the San Francisco Chronicle. 1936-1938 consists of his radio column, "Herb Caen on the Air Lanes." During 1938, it becomes a general column called "It's News to Me," characterized by witty one-liners, celebrity gossip, humor, local commentary, and paeans to the city of San Francisco. From 1950-1958, his column is from the pages of the rival Examiner.
