Lord Byron story and letter page with seal, 1822-1823.

Manuscript of a short story by Byron, written in Italy in February 1823, just before Byron sailed to Greece. The manuscript is prefaced by a later typewritten note (which says that the story is autobiographical), and followed by a later typewritten transcript. Also, last page of a letter from Byron to John Murray, 1822 (used as the envelope), with Murray's address in London, bearing Byron's red wax seal. Also bound in is an engraved portrait of Byron by H.B. Hall. Laid in are two 1963 typewritten letters to George Healey, head of the Dept. of Rare Books at Cornell, from Louis F. Peck, identifying the manuscript as the one published in Prothero's edition of Byron's Letters and journals (1924), v. 6, p. 439-441. The binding is modern half calf over marbled paper covers.
