Papers : of the Montague family, 1808-1939.

The collection contains correspondence of Thomas Ball Montague of Gloucester County, Va., primarily with his wife while he commanded a company of the 34th Virginia Artillery Regiment, C.S.A., and with other family members. Also, includes Montague's personal and professional financial accounts, in part, while serving as surveyor of Gloucester County, land records, and estate materials. Volumes include diaries, 1845-1847, concerning farming operations in Gloucester County; a student notebook kept at the College of William and Mary, Williamsburg, Va., 1838; and an account book, 1840-1854, concerning students at Benvenue Seminary, Gloucester County. The collection also includes scattered records of William Montague of Henrico County, Va., Charles Wortley Montague, who moved to Augusta, Ark., Lucy Lee Montague Wiatt, and other Montague family members.
