Samuel Chapman Armstrong collection, 1826-1947.

The collection contains photographs, account books and receipts, legal papers, letters, recipes, programs and literature relating to Armstrong, his wives Emma Walker Armstrong and Mary Alice Ford Armstrong, their children and extended Walker, Williams, Davis and Adam families. The collection provides an opportunity for scholars to examine the life of a leading figure in 19th-century educational philosophy within the context and influence of the community in which he was reared. Contains information on the business life of George Walker, a dry goods merchant, and Daniel Williams, a banker; also insights into Richard Armstrong's early Hawaiian missionary activities.
