Schweitzer Mining Collection 1887-1978 bulk 1912-1960.

Series 1 consists of correspondence, sectional maps, reports, notes, interviews and clippings pertaining to mines in Amador County, California and to other mines and to mining practices in California, Arizona, and Nevada. Series 2 consists of correspondence, maps, literary sketches and ephemera pertaining chiefly to mining. Series 3 contains a mining engineer's field notebook (1915-1919), scrapbooks on San Francisco Municipal Railway (1925-1932) and platinum mining (1923-1925), and the ledger of the South Jackson Mining Company (1911). Series 4 contains historical sketches on individuals and events in the motherlode written by Schweitzer's friend, Duff Chapman. Series 5 contains books and pamphlets on mines and mining -- most notably, mining in the western United States.

Mining engineer. B.S., University of California (1907). Free-lance mining engineer in western states and particularly in Amador County (1908-1958). First director of Amador County Historical Society (1960s). Settled in Jackson, California upon retirement. There met Duff Chapman, local historian, to whom he left his papers and library (1979).
