ArchivalResource

The flitch of bacon (or The matrimonial relish) [manuscript], ca. 1775.

An early draft of a comic opera which appears never to have been produced. The dramatis personae is in Ireland's autograph; the text, much altered and interlined, is not. An autograph note by William Henry Ireland says his father named the piece The matrimonial relish, and that Bate Dudley's Flitch of bacon was a plagiarism of it. Another manuscript (D.a.82) the only title used (in letters about it) is The flitch of bacon.
