The collection includes business and family correspondence, 1830- 1874, account books (3 vols.), 1837-1873, accounts, land and legal records (including materials concerning fishing rights in Virginia) of John Catesby Edrington (1800-1879) of "Myrtle Grove," Stafford County, Va. Also includes materials of Edrington & Moncure concerning quarrying in Stafford County, Va., 1834-1839, including information on employees. Also includes family correspondence of Elizabeth Hawkins Stone Edrington (1810-1891), in part concerning religious education and the education of children. Correspondence of John Catesby Edrington (1829?- 1862) concerns the 9th Virginia Cavalry Regiment, C.S.A. Angelina Selden Edrington (b. 1838) materials include a diary, 1856-1861, correspondence, and account books, 1886-1902. Some items concern her service as an Episcopal Sunday School teacher for African-Americans in Stafford County. Miscellaneous materials include correspondence of Frances Daniels Edrington Bozzell (b. 1850?), Ella Ann Edrington Simpson (1833-1880), and other family members. Also includes letters written to and accounts of Doctor Walter Jones (1745-1815), of "Hayfield," Lancaster County, 1766- 1801, including a letter concerning the innoculation of Thomas Jefferson for smallpox.

Walter Jones was a student at William and Mary with Thomas Jefferson. He graduated from the University of Edinburgh with an M.D. in 1769. Upon his return to Virginia, he practiced medicine and served in the House of Delegates during the Revolution.
