American novelist, orator, and social reformer, Ignatius Donnelly served as Minnesota lieutenant governor, 1860-1863, U.S. Congressman, 1863-1868, and state senator, 1874-1878. This collection assembled by Donnelly reflects his wide-ranging interests in literature, history, politics, economics and business, public affairs and government service. Includes such topics as General Land Office reports, Lincoln's assassination, slavery, impeachment, education, forests and forestry, Reconstruction, commerce, finance, labor, tariff, railroads, source of the Mississippi River, Farmers Alliance, Donnelly vs. Washburn--Cf.
