Keynote lecture delivered at the opening of the symposium, "The colors of clay: special techniques in Athenian vases." The lecture was given by Beth Cohen, independent scholar and guest curator of "The colors of clay" exhibition. The lecture discusses some spectacular vases that combine a variety of extraordinary production processes used by ancient Athenian potters and vase-painters.
