Francis Goodwin family papers, 1848-1923.

Primarily personal and church-related correspondence of a Hartford, Connecticut, minister. Correspondents include Elizabeth H. Colt, Harriet Beecher Stowe, Junius Spencer Morgan, Francis' father James Goodwin, his sister Mary, and Francis' wife Mary Alsop Jackson Goodwin. Francis' papers also document his long history as pastor of Trinity Church in Hartford, his interest in developing Keney Park and expanding it with a park named after his own family, his work as trustee of the Wadsworth Atheneum, and his continuing contact with Berkeley Divinity School. Additional family members included in the collection are Francis' mother Lucy Morgan Goodwin, and his siblings Sarah Morgan Goodwin Brownell and James J. Goodwin.

Born in 1813, Junius Spencer Morgan began his career first as a partner with the firm Morris Ketchum in New York, and then as a partner with Howe, Mather & Co. in Hartford. In 1836, he married Juliet Pierpont; the couple relocated their family to Boston in 1850 when Morgan joined the firm J.M. Beebe & Co.
