Freeman collection, 1802-1920.

The collection documents the business transactions of the Union City Realty & Trust Co., and Consolidated Trust Co., its owners and major investors: John A. Phillips, J. H. Harris, Ida Harris, Mrs. M. E. Phillips; their creditors, partners, and many many legal transactions. It proves an interesting perspective on the founding of Union City by land speculators complete with ad campaign promotions and possibly exploitations. The collection is comprised of correspondence, affadavits, depositions, land grant copies, land surveys, bonds, deeds, abstracts of titles, mortgages, court summons, petitions, settlements, judgements, FiFa's, promissory notes, accounts, receipts, stock certificates, newsclippings, business cards, a will and a broadside. The greatest concentration of material is within the 1870-1911 period.
