Bound volume, 19 July 1861 - 24 Mar. 1863, recounting Frederick Bischoff's Civil War experiences, beginning with his enlistment at Camp Pickens, Sandy Springs, Anderson District, until his discharge for medical reasons. Contains regular entries, 19 July 1861 - 20 April 1862, the date Bischoff's regiment left South Carolina for Virginia, with comments re military discipline, troop morale, recreational activities, the movements of the Federal blockading fleet and Confederate blockade runners, and camp life at Sandy Springs, Summerville, and Sullivan's Island. Contains sporadic entries after 20 Apr. 1862 describing the regiment's involvement in fighting in Virginia and Bischoff's wounding and subsequent discharge.
