Organized in Cleveland, Ohio in 1874, the Woman's Christian Temperance Union is the oldest, continuous dues-paying woman's organization in existence. The WCTU of Dakota was organized in 1882 at Canton, SD, prior to which local unions had been organized in a number of towns. On September 14, 1889 the WCTU of Dakota divided into separate state organizations for North Dakota and South Dakota. Born at Fargo, N.D. Began studies at Concordia College in 1914, completed her degree in 1949. Taught music in Fargo, including at Oak Grove School. Graduated from Fargo College Conservatory, did some post graduate work in Chicago. Also active in Woman's Christian Temperance Union, member of Pioneer Daughters, Fargo Organ Guild, and Mu Phi Epsilon. Buried at Riverside Cemetery, Fargo, N.D.
