Papers : of Gertrude Boatwright Claytor, 1935-1972.

The collection contains the manuscripts of an essay and two speeches on Edgar Lee Masters as well as a poem autographed by Masters as Luke Puckett; a note, n.d., from Masters; copies of four letters, 1915, from him; and two photographs. In addition, there is correspondence from Masters's daughter Marcia Lee Masters Schmid, a Pearl S. Buck autograph, and a photograph of nine- year-old Elinor Hoyt Wylie. Papers, 1955-1967, from the Borestone Mountain Poetry awards constitute the bulk of the collection. They consist of correspondence between Waddell O. Austin, managing editor of the awards, and Mrs. Claytor who served as an editor in producing an annual volume of best poems. With the letters are copies of poems submitted to the volumes. Another major segment contains letters, 1968-1973, from Melvin Scott, a friend of Mrs. Claytor's who wrote her local Washington news on her trips out of town. Also in the collection are winning poems, 1971, from the Gertrude Claytor Poetry Prize; the shooting script, 1951, for Daughter of the stars, a travelog of the Shenandoah Valley by Holcombe Parks; and letters and cards from her friends.
